Oakland Athletics’ last game at old Coliseum will be in 2024.
The A’s have announced today that they will be moving their home games from the Ballpark to Sutter Health Park, in Sacramento, California. They will play their first game in the new stadium at the beginning of the next season. Then, they’ll continue to play there through 2026, 2027, and then move on Las Vegas, Nevada tentatively planned for 2028.
Sutter Health Park is the home of the Sacramento River Cats. The Triple-A team of the San Francisco Giants. This would make it the smallest stadium in Major League Baseball, but of course, this is only a temporary fix.
John Fisher explained in a media statement that A’s owner and managing partner, John Fisher had explored a number of locations as a possible temporary home. This included the Oakland Coliseum. “Even though there was a longstanding relationship between the A’s and Oakland as well as good intentions from both sides, an agreement appeared impossible. This is our last season in Oakland, so we understand how disappointing this news can be for our fans. We are going to celebrate and remember our time here in Oakland. More details on this will follow soon.”
We extend our gratitude to the Kings and to West Sacramento and we look forward to calling Sutter Health Park home while our new stadium opens in Las Vegas.
It is official that the Major League Baseball era in Oakland has ended. The Oakland Major League Baseball era began with the arrival of the Oakland Athletics. Kansas City Athletics After the 1967 season, the A’s moved to the Bay Area. With their international appeal, the A’s attracted baseball fans from all over. Uniforms in bright green and gold colorsThe backs of the jerseys are adorned with nicknames rather than last names. The Oakland Athletics was the baseball team that I most feared when I started to love the game in the 1980s. A string of three American League titles in a row led by Rickey HendersonDennis Eckersley Mark McGwire, Jose CansecoDave Stewart won a World Series Championship, in 1989.
As of yet, there are no details about what the team would be called — if they would take on the name Sacramento Athletics or stick to using Oakland. It would make it the fourth time this team has changed its name. The others are Philadelphia, Kansas City and Oakland. They will add Las Vegas to their list in just three years.
It was a joke that I made yesterday, which far too many people took seriously. The team would be called the California Athletics. But this is mostly an excuse to bring the old “CA” Angels logo From the 1990s.
Don’t hate me for this, A’s fans — I’m not the enemy; I just like logos.
The Oakland A’s did not trademark the Sacramento A’s’ logo in 1990, but it was widely used.
Kids, you can’t say it better than “I designed a brand in Microsoft Word in the 90s and printed it using my dot-matrix printer.”
Now is a great time to review the Oakland Athletics’ logo and uniforms from 1968 until 2024.
