Scouting Summary
Morgan has a fluid, fast-moving style. His best NFL position might be as a guard. The track-and field experience he has gives him core strength and natural balance, which gives him good ability to change direction.
While his arm length may not be the best for playing offensive tackle, it is still adequate. Although his footwork and kick-slide are fast, his steps in the slide are too short. The positives are his hand placement, patience, and football intelligence.
He is listed as 325 pounds but lacks strength and density. He can be overwhelmed by bull rushes if the angle is right. And while he’s got the speed and footwork to keep up with pass rushers but lacks the strength to stop their momentum.
WINS ABOVE THE AVERAGE
WAA is the amount of wins that a college footballer is worth compared to an average player. It is used by evaluators as a way to evaluate performance.
This combines each facet’s value to win games with the player’s performance in every aspect of football (using grades from PFF). It is a unique metric which allows players and teams to be valued across positions.
How a player ranks in the STABLE METRICS
PFF’s pass-blocking rating is a good way to describe an offensive lineman’s ability as a blocker. However, it gets even better when you isolate the grade only for “true passes sets.”
The true pass set is a play without screens, plays with no play-action and a designed rollout where at least four players are rushing the quarterback and he stands at the bottom of the pocket for 2.1 seconds. We can better predict a lineman’s pass-blocking ability by focusing on more specific scenarios.
In general, run blocking is a measure that can be relied upon to provide a consistent level of performance. Positively rated plays fluctuate more than negatively rated plays for offensive tackles. Interior guards and center are the opposite.
Morgan was not at his best in the Junior year of 2021. However, he has shown remarkable improvement since then. The newest version of the game is 2022. Arizona The tackle was rated in the 70th or higher percentile in each of four pass blocking metrics.
During his final two seasons, he also saw an increase in the production of run blocking. The negative graded rate of run blocking in 2021 was 12.0%. This improved to 9.5% during the next two seasons.
PFF’s BOTTOM SIDE LINE NFL DRAFT GUIDE 2024
Morgan has plenty of room to grow, regardless of whether he is playing tackle or guard. His athletic abilities, including his fast hands and foot, are what make him a potential starter.
