On Thursday, the New York Giants released a statement. This season, the team will be celebrating their 100th anniversary Wear “Century Red”, throwback uniforms, in two or more games during the fall.
They are mostly based on the uniforms worn by the 1933 Giants led by Hall of Fame coach Steve Owen along with players Mel Hein (who is now a Hall of Famer) and Red Badgro. The Giants played in the NFL Championship Game for the first time, but lost to the Chicago Bears 23-21.
It was virtually identical to the look New York debuted on Thursday. This included a jersey in red with numbers on white within a horizontal, blue stripe across the chest.
Originally, the jerseys were worn with blue leather helmets with red stripes. However, they will now be worn with winged helmets that are more in line with their 1937-1947 designs.
Uniforms consist of solid-tan pants, predominantly red socks and the same stripes as on the jerseys. New York City’s 100th Anniversary Logo On the left shoulder
Linebacker Bobby Okereke: “It feels gritty and vintage.” It’s like a throwback from the 1930s and 1920s when people were just starting to get dirty. This is a tribute to the players who came before. “They paved the road for us to enjoy this wonderful game.”
There’s no word on whether “Century Red”, throwback jerseys, will replace Giants 1980-1999 Color Rush or throwback uniforms. However, one of these must go since NFL teams are only allowed to use four jerseys each season.
As they can only own two shells, the throwback 1980-99 set with the navy blue matching helmet is likely to get put aside for now. They’ll likely continue swapping decals from their blue standard lids to the Color Rush Set.
