To create “Capsule” Collection, three Minor League Baseball Teams will collaborate with independent local musicians. It is the goal of this collaboration to showcase what branding for minor league teams excels at: connections between local communities and team members. Capsule Collection’s initial phase, just announced, will blend design elements from baseball teams with rock bands in order to create unique fusion branding.
Alan Miller is the co-founder of Official League. He is a program organizer. There’s a story behind each and every detail of this collection.
The program will pair the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox—or WooSox, to friends—with alternate rockers Dinosaur Jr., a Massachusetts-based band that is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its album “Where You Been.”
Double-A Reading Fightin Phils and Mt. Joy is a Philadelphia folk-rock group best known for their 2016 song “Silver Lining.”
Band of Horses is a Charleston indie rock group currently touring the country.
Official League creates the artwork in most cases. Teams and bands are also heavily involved. For the Band of Horses/RiverDogs Partnership in Charleston, Creighton Barrett created the artwork. He is a band fan.
Miller explained that the teams and artists were both huge baseball fans. Miller said that when we first approached the bands, both the teams and artists were eager to collaborate.
Gear launches first with Official League and then is available through team stores of the teams participating. The ultimate goal is for teams to wear the brand while on the pitch.
Miller stated that “we have finished the jersey designs.” We will celebrate the fans by putting on a jersey.
There are still more details to be revealed, including the number of teams involved and the timing of when gear will appear on-field, determined team by team.
