The uniform says, “We have been here since 1901. Tradition and history were important in the transition. This uniform was designed to reflect that, as well as to represent where the team is now, and to look forward, to connect the past to the present.
It is a cap that features the Guardians in their usual color, red. ‘Diamond C’ cap logo trimmed in blue set against a sandstone front panel, a colour we see used throughout the uniform instead of white, a blue crown, and a red visor. It’s the red and blue stripes on the sweatband that are the real surprise. They also appear on the jerseys, pants, and socks. The undervisor includes a blue sandstone pattern, the same pattern we see on the jersey…
A pattern is featured on the jersey’s base, which has a deep blue color. It was inspired by the Berea Sandstone that appears in the Guardians of Traffic Statues. Across the chest is an abbreviated ‘CLE,’ inspired by Cleveland’s “t-shirt culture,” etched in an Art Deco style reminiscent of the detailing on the Hope Memorial Bridge. The design team chose a layered approach for the ‘CLE’ wordmark, making it look like it’s been carved directly from stone. It was the same style that appeared on the backs of the players’ jerseys.
Wiedemann explained that the pattern of the jersey was meant to replicate the wear and tear on the Guardian statues. “We wanted to maintain our historic red and blue, which have been part of our closet for almost all of our history but opted for slightly deeper shades. It was a way to maintain the existing palette while going in a new direction.

I think we may have had a more active role than others because we still were working on our brand and were not sure what City Connect’s look would be like after three years.

Local artist Lisa Quine will paint a mural that is inspired by City Connect. The mural can be seen just outside the left field entrance gate.
