Champions League T20 will be returning as Cricket Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Cricket India have all agreed to a new agreement. England and Wales Cricket Board The (ECB), are currently in discussions to reintroduce this league. Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins has confirmed this development.
It is a league that has been played in many countries. This tournament brought together the best teams in all of the major leagues. IPLThe league includes the BBL and other teams. Six seasons were played in the tournament before its discontinuation in 2015.
The first edition was held in 2009. Four of these seasons took place on Indian soil, while the other two were scheduled in South Africa. Chennai Super Kings won two IPL titles, while Mumbai Indians also took home a second. New South Wales and Sydney Sixers both came out on top.
Nick Cummins discussed the possibility that the league could be played again. While revealing the discussions between large Cricket boards, he stressed that finding a window would be difficult. They will start with the Women’s Edition. In a media interview, he said:
The (previous edition) of Champions is the best, I believe League was way ahead of its times. T20 wasn’t ready at the time. Now, I believe it’s ready. “I know there is active conversation between Cricket Australia, ECB and BCCI about the Champions League (revival).”
The ICC has a lot of tournaments, so it’s hard to decide when to actually play this. It may be (the case) that the first iteration of the Champions League will be of the women… (it may involve cricketers playing in the) the WL, the Hundred and the WBBL.”
Nick Cummins revealed further that Cricket Australia was open to the Champions League, but the BCCI is working on finding a slot in the FTP. He said:
“I am constantly speaking to Nick Hockley (Cricket Australia’s CEO) about a Champions League because it is important for me to see that come back. Talks are underway. You should probably ask Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary.
We are open-minded about the Champions League from a cricketing perspective in Australia. “It’s about finding an opening in the FTP. But I believe that is the next evolution in cricket.”

Nick Cummins stated further that the Champions League would determine the best leagues in the world, whether it is IPL, PSL or Big Bash. In a recent interview, Nick Cummins expressed that he would like to see Indians in the BBL.
The best league has yet to be determined. IPL or PSL? We can only show this by letting the Melbourne Stars face the Karachi Kings, or Mumbai Indians. The Indians playing in the Big Bash is our greatest aspiration.
The Champions League has been long overdue. It’s amazing what the Champions League can do for soccer. World Cups are great, but the Champions League (is) always there. Mumbai Indians vs Melbourne Stars would be equally exciting to India versus Australia. MCG.”
There is still a lot of work ahead of the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI, Cricket Australia CA and England and Wales Cricket Board ECB to figure out a suitable window for the Champions League in a world of packed cricket.
