Vancouver FC of the Canadian Premier League has gained a bit more energy after unveiling new kits for 2024.
Announcing the new kit, which was produced by Macron, the league’s official supplier, via their social media and website on April 3rd. Cherry blossoms are the inspiration for the kits. They have been a true harbinger of spring on the Lower Mainland in British Columbia.
These kits are pale pink, with petals in darker pink shades cascading from the top of the shirt.
The explosion occurs when the temperature changes. White. The color pink. The color of spring. Hope. The Lower Mainland is suddenly adorned with the pastel-colored buds. Our community is alive with the pinks and purples of spring. Cherry blossoms are a 60-year old phenomenon and a sight that is enjoyed by both locals as well as tourists. It marks the beginning of a new era for everyone.
Vancouver FC’s crest is displayed in gray and black, on the left side of the chest. On the left chest, the sponsor logos appear in one color black. The sleeve and crew neck cuffs feature a black color with a wide white stripe running down the middle.
Vancouver FC’s announcement said that “the blossoms symbolise new beginnings and vitality. They align perfectly with the renewed aspirations of our club, as we prepare to line up with an entirely newly-assembled team for the Canadian Premier League 2024 season.”
These shirts aren’t only beautiful, they also help raise money to support a worthy cause. Each jersey will donate a portion of its proceeds to The Pink Shirt Day CampaignThis campaign is aimed at combating bullying in sport, school and every aspect of young people’s lives.
Stephanie Wood, VFC’s vice president for marketing and business development said: “This kit represents our pink shirt of 2024. We hope that people will wear it proudly to show their support to their club while also contributing to a larger cause.” The origins of Pink Shirt Day are not well known. The Pink Shirt Day began in Canada and we want to continue that spirit by using this platform for positive change.
Vancouver FC opens their CanPL 2024 season when they play Winnipeg’s Valour FC on Sunday April 14. The match will be held at Willoughby Community Park, Langley Events Centre. Their first away game — and possibly their first chance to wear the cherry blossom kits — comes on Friday, April 26, when they visit York United.
