In a player’s poker career, there are moments when everything seems to be going right. India’s Ankit Ahuja One of these times has been experienced first-hand by destroying the final table in the £1,650 High Roller Event at the 2024 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Edinburgh festival.
A compact but star-studded field of 50 players competed for the largest slice of the GUKPT Edinburgh High Roller’s £72,000 prize pool. The top six players saw a profit, while GUKPT’s regular Matthew Davenport He crashed out of the race in seventh place, and burst his money bubble.
Ahuja had a large chip stack and used it with great efficiency.

Team Grosvenor’s premature end to George Demetirou’s GUKPT debut final table appearance. Jamie Nixon Nixon’s pocket 10s were too strong for his Ace-King. Demetirou banked £4,320 for his sixth-place finish.
Ciprian Berndan’s ill-timed action gifted Ahuja with a large pot, and cemented Ahuja as the leader in the chip count. Berdan chose to bet his 20 last big blinds on six-deuce spades and Ahuja reacted with pocket jacks. Ahuja’s jacks held, and Berdan made his way to the cashier’s desk to collect £5,760.
Popular Grinder Keith Littlewood Ahuja’s next victim was Littlewood. Littlewood, who won the £550 GUKPT Cup at the Blackpool leg last month, got the last of his chips into the middle of the felt with pocket eights, only for Ahuja’s pocket queens to melt those snowmen.
The GUKPT could have easily awarded Ahuja with the GUKPT trophy when three-handed play began. Ahuja’s total stack was 117 big-blinds. Thomas Clack Four big blinds are available to his closest rival. Not 44, four big blinds!

Nixon and Clack had to fold their hands, which they usually would play because of the dynamic caused by the different stack sizes. Nixon doubled through Ahuja and Clack was left with a single big blind. Clack couldn’t embark on a miraculous spin-up, and he busted in third for £11,520.
Nixon tried to reduce Ahuja’s enormous stack but it was over almost immediately. Nixon jammed nine big blinds on the first hand of heads-up with his king-five. Ahuja matched it with her queen-ten. Nixon slapped a king in the turn but Ahuja’s nine on the River improved into a winning straight. Nixon busted in second for £17,280, leaving Ahuja to bank a £25,200 top prize and the winner’s trophy.
Ahuja has now won over $2.65 Million in live tournaments, and has narrowed the gap with his nearest competitor. Nipun JavaThe Indian leaderboard for all-time wins currently has Ahuja in third position. With Ahuja likely to enter the £1,000 GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event, that gap could shorten further over the weekend.
The GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event Day 1A took place on the 11th of April, and 14 out of 48 participants made it through at first attempt. On April 12, the second flight of three will shuffle up and deal at 12 noon, with Day 1C turbo structured to begin at 9 pm.
