The American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters won’t leave fans in the dark about next month’s game. total solar eclipse.
Cleveland will be in the path for totality of the eclipse on Monday, April 8th. To celebrate the eclipse, the Monsters released special edition jerseys they will wear on Saturday March 30 against the Rochester Americans.
The jersey is dark gray with gradient stripes around the sleeves and waist, which mimic the glowing light around moon’s edges as it passes Earth and the Sun during an eclipse. The front of the jersey features a modified Monsters logo, with the lake creature shrouded by darkness and a small light burst emerging from the left.
The numbers are textured like a surface of the moon. But the best part may be the white parts of the jersey — outlines on the numbers, the names on the back and the eyes of the monster and text on the front of the jersey — which all Glow in the Dark.
The jerseys have custom shoulder patches that feature a Monsters wordmark with a partially-covered sun.
Fans attending the game on 30 March will receive “Total Solar Eclipse Survival Pack”, including a T-shirt, eclipse glasses and more. The shirt features a moon blocking out the Monsters and the words “I was in The Land during the total solar eclipse”.
The total eclipse of the sun should cover Cleveland around 3:15 PM. ET on Monday, 8 April.
If the eclipse cannot be seen in Cleveland due to bad weather, the Monsters are offering everyone who purchased a ticket for the game on March 30 a “constellation” prize of a free future game ticket.
