West Virginia revealed new uniforms at the weekend. They pay homage different eras in Mountaineer football, while still maintaining modern touches.
In developing our new uniforms it was essential for us to combine our rich tradition and history with modern technology,” In a recent press release, athletic director Wren Baker stated that.
The West Virginia Mountaineers had to be instantly recognizable. “I think our team of designers and equipment specialists, as well as our Nike partners did an amazing job in creating these uniforms.”
Nike Vapor F.U.S.E. template is used for the uniforms. The Flying “WV”, which is a logo that has been flying on sleeves since 2012, can be seen for the first ever in the white home jersey, navy blue road jersey, and gold alternate uniforms.
The shoulders also feature a stripe in the shape of a crescent, which was popularized by Pat White, Geno Slaton Steve Slaton Noel Devine Tavon Austin Owen Schmitt.
In that period, from 2007 to 2012, the Mountaineers were able to win three Big East titles and two BCS Bowls. They also dominated Oklahoma in 2008 Fiesta Bowl, and Clemson, in 2012.
The navy blue and gold jerseys prominently display a “Mountaineers” wordmark across the chest while the road jerseys have “West Virginia” – Both of these are taken from the alternate “Country Roads 2022-23 uniforms – above the program’s custom number font.
All three jerseys are complete with the Flying “WV” inside of a state outline at the base of the contrasting collar, as well as the state motto – Montani Semper Liberi, Latin for “Mountaineers are Always Free” – inside of the back collar.
West Virginia’s new gold pants feature two navy blue stripes – which were a staple under Hall of Fame head coach Don Nehlen from 1980-93, when the Mountaineers appeared in eight bowl games – as well as a Flying “WV” on the right hip.
The navy blue pants are meanwhile. The alternate uniforms for 2023, “Country Roads”, are very similar. The white pants feature two “Nehlen’ stripes along the side, while the navy-blue-gold-navy-blue stripe pattern is reminiscent of the 1960s, 1970s, and the early 2000s when Rich Rodriguez was in charge.
Neal Brown is the head coach of this current football team. He said, “We went to the past and re-created some of our most cherished uniform parts that make us so special.”
We have a variety of choices each week, and the players are always excited to try something new. No matter what the pants or jersey are, the fans will always know that it is the West Virginia Mountaineers playing football.
West Virginia has now 27 uniform options for the current season, including navy blue helmets and gold ones with the “Flying WV” logo on the side and white helmets that feature the same logo.
The Mountaineers made only one change in the helmets. They dropped the matte finish and the black facemasks introduced in 2013. Instead, they went with navy cages.
