Valour FC, a Canadian Premier League team from the Canadian Premier League, has drawn inspiration for its 2024 kit made by Macron from two sources that are very different and yet very significant.
On Thursday, April 4th at Trans Canada Brewery in Winnipeg, the Winnipeg-based team unveiled their 2024 primary and alternate kit. “The two jerseys offer a salute to Winnipeg’s professional soccer history as well as honouring the rich Indigenous cultures of Manitoba in the Anishinaabe, Cree, Anisininew, Dakota, Lakota, Nakota, Deene, Inuit and Red River Métis people,” Valour website says.
Valour, which has primarily worn maroon in its primary kits for most of its history will switch to a white kit for 2024. White base with maroon sleeves and chest stripe as tribute to Winnipeg Fury – the first ever professional soccer club in the city. Fury won the Canadian Soccer League title in 1992. The Fury competed in the Canadian Soccer League for a period of time from 1987 until 1993.
On Thursday, three members of the Fury team that won the championship were present: Constantine Ignat (captain), Ralph Cantafio (vice-captain) and Tony Nocita.
Nocita, a member of the club told its website: “They’re fantastic.” “I was ready because I thought that a match would be played later. I was brought back to my childhood. The jersey was very close to what I had worn and brought back many memories. “I just imagined myself wearing the shirt and it instantly brought me back.”
Valour’s away kit draws on Indigenous culture and art. The black shirt is dominated by a large sunflower in maroon, gold and white. Prairie Crocus are placed at each corner. Patterns and lines on the rest of the shirt recognize the “dynamic and deep contributions by our first peoples in art, science and knowledge.”
Raphael Ohin is a midfielder who said, “I like it.” As soon as I saw the Indigenous theme, I was immediately drawn to it. My girlfriend’s background is Indigenous. I had seen it earlier and told her, ‘As soon as you see it, you’re going to love it.’ When I showed her a pic her first reaction was, ‘Oh my God, this is lovely.’
This jersey helps in that.” “This jersey can help in that.”
Valour FC begins their CanPL Season 2024 on April 14 when they travel to Vancouver FC. Due to the replacement of the turf at their stadium, IG Field, they will play seven of their games away. They will not host Vancouver FC until Sunday, the 2nd of June.
