It’s Monday. Another week of MLS ESPN’s Power Rankings is back now that the action has ended.

Our Power Rankings come from a combination key season stats (points per match, goal differential and expected goal (xG), recent performances, Opta computer ratings and our writers’ observations.
Who’s on the rise? Who’s on the decline? We’ve ranked each of the 29 clubs after Matchday 5 Let’s get started.

Most teams would fall out of these sacred power rankings after their first loss. But what about the Columbus Crew? Not so fast. We have too many data points to suggest that this team is awesome for a 2-0 loss away (that was marred with refereeing controversy), to knock Columbus off its perch.

I’m interested to see how Pat Noonan’s five new starters start to gel. But the big story in Cincy continues to continue to be Lucho Acosta. The guy thrives in tight matches and scored the lone tally in his team’s win of 1-0 over NYCFC.

Inter Miami is beaten by 4-0? Impressive. This win comes with a huge caveat. Lionel Messi‘s injury, and the international holiday that took players from both sides out of Saturday’s matchup. The Red Bulls have bounced back in a big manner from their 3-0 loss against the Crew.

You don’t need to worry — or rejoice, depending on how you look at it — Inter Miami will still be a great MLS club when they are fully staffed. But they weren’t at their full strength against RBNY. And they won’t even be at full strength in the summer. Tata Martino’s team is currently concerned about its depth.

LAFC’s 5-0 thrashing over of Nashville SC Get in touch Dénis Bouanga and co. finally scored after three weeks of scoreless football. This was a much needed outburst that reminded us how dangerous LAFC’s top-end talents can be.

The Galaxy’s offensive strength is one of the best in MLS. Three of their four last matches have seen them score three goals, including Saturday’s comeback win over SKC. Defense is a major problem. It’s also the buildup. This team is unstoppable, however, in the final third.

Even without three starters central midfield Andre Blake Portland Timbers, who had been without a goalkeeper during the international break, was able to earn their first win of the year against the Union. The Loons had a bye weekend this past week, giving new manager Eric Ramsay an opportunity to run through a few extra training sessions with star No. 10 Emanuel Reynoso.

Laurent Courtois’ squad was on a bye this past weekend. They still have two games to play on their road trip, before they return to Montreal. They’ve exceeded expectations so far.

Atlanta United just don’t seem to be a threat during the attack. Thiago Almeda. We saw it last season, and we saw again in the 2-0 loss on Saturday to Toronto FC. His availability defines Atlanta’s every game.

While still dealing with an injury problem, the Dynamo can be happy with their 1-0 victory in Colorado at the last minute. They should be pleased that Sebastián Ferreira Re-enter the field.

Vancouver’s attack has been disrupted by the switch from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3. The former worked well for long periods last year. They were the best team on the field when they played RSL.

Charlotte’s win is difficult to interpret given Columbus’s early yellow cards. Even so, the 23-year old striker Patrick Agyemang Dean Smith was a difference maker at the top.

Orlando City picked up their season’s first win against Austin FC. Orlando City started to attack in a 2-0 home win. Nico Lodeiro, Martín Ojeda, Luis Muriel Working together nicely at the end third.

St. Louis lost a lead during the first half before storming back with a goal from a penalty kick in the second. Bradley Carnell’s team might be afraid to play a regular 90-minute match.

NYCFC continues to struggle with consistency. They followed their first victory of the season up with a tame, 1-0 defeat to FC Cincinnati.

Chris Armas’ lack of tactical differentiation in Colorado is adding pressure to his players, who are under more pressure to change their games. The Rapids aren’t talented enough to make it work.

Progress! San Jose looked good in their 3-2 victory over the Sounders. Niko Tsakiris, who has just recovered from a recent injury, was a standout. The 18 year old added a layer of speed to the midfield, which had been sluggish.
