During an NBA season we see many wow moments. If it’s an NBA dunk that gets people out of their seats, it is usually a defender being so badly crossed up he falls to the ground. We’ve all been there, watching in awe when players like Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard nail game-winning threes from 40 yards. But what? Houston Rockets Jalen Green’s weekend attack on Anfernees Simons, a Portland Trail Blazers player, should be considered illegal. A new contender for dunks of the year is in the room.
Green’s dunk is the filthiest in-game dunk we’ve seen in a long time. The actual dunk isn’t that special, but the scene of Green going over Simons to come down with thunderous force is what makes it. The part when the announcer says: “On Simons Dome!” This may have been the icing on the cake.
The NBA is known for its dunks. However, the way Green elevated Simons and then climbed the ladder to a higher level was impressive. Simons would have been better off if he hadn’t jumped. It’s a good thing he tried to defend himself, but it was a bad idea. Simons is lucky that posters aren’t as popular as they used to be 30 years ago. He’s still been posterized but the poster will now live on the Internet forever, not the bedroom walls for young boys all over the country. On second thoughts, living in infamy online is probably worse.
As you can see Green is not afraid as he has already competed in the slam-dunk contestThe outcome was not as he had hoped. The fact that the participant took part speaks volumes about his competitive drive. Nameless, unlike othersAvoid the contest like the plague.
If you’re the one on the receiving end of Green’s dunk like Simons, then it’s best to stay away from social media for 24 to 48 hours. This clip will be replayed and analyzed endlessly, just as we have done. It’s all in good fun and happens to the best of ‘em. For those who do not like criticism, put down your devices and take some powder.
